Central Market has always been an architecture for people - from the 60s’ renowned markets to the recent reopening of the mall after the revitalization. It is one significant collective memory to Hong Kong people - the appearance, the light and shadow of the historical Market had been well captivated by Ho Fan, an internationally acclaimed Hong Kong photographer.

To echo the 65th Anniversary direction of HKIA, “Architecture for People”, we conceive the Central Market as the City’s central hub, transforming it from a busy market to a home for all. The 1F bridge is the Foyer of the Hub decorated with fabrics with the exhibition’s introduction printed on them. It allows the visitors to appreciate the well-designed atrium, meanwhile grasping the background of the exhibition. The 1F exhibition hall has multi-sized Rooms which are seemingly independent yet connected, exhibiting the awarded works and panels of different categories.

As a dialogue with Ho Fan’s masterpiece “Smokey World”, we make use of translucent fabric to increase the hierarchy/layers of space inside the 1F exhibition hall. The rooms are in a clean rectangular form and ambiguity is achieved through the articulation of materials. The ambiguity also explains our belief towards the awarded architectures - despite lying in different categories, they are all architecture for humans.

從六十年代的街市趁墟，到今天活化後的多元空間，中環街市一直是這個城市的一個重要地標。一代攝影名家如何藩、鍾文略等所留下的光影掠照，更將舊街市裡的水磨石樓梯變成我們的集體回憶，成為舊香港的著名印記。

呼應香港建築師學會六十五週年的主題「人人建築」，在是次的展覽設計中，我們的創作意念是將人來人往的中環街市化身為一個城市客舍，一樓的連橋是這個「客舍」的前廳，前廳的中央掛置著印有展覽引言的布藝展板，到來的客人既能一邊欣賞中庭大廳的景緻，一邊了解展覽的背景概括。一樓的展覽空間則由數個大小各異的「小房間」組成，房間之間看似獨立卻實相連，客人能進內駐足細看各個得獎類別的展板，在熙來攘往的街市內覓得一片閒。

取材自何藩的《迷濛世界》，我們選用了透光的布褂作為主要物料去增加既有展覽空間的層次感，如同何藩光影裡留下的曖昧空間。這也和我們所相信的不謀而合：儘管建築能被歸納細分，但它們都是為人而建的。
